Ardagh switches Weißenthurm completely to aluminium beverage cans
News General news
The metal packaging group Ardagh Metal Packaging is converting its beverage can plant in Weißenthurm completely to aluminium by the end of 2023.
The site is one of the last in Europe still producing tinplate beverage cans. The company's plans to expand the Rhineland-Palatinate plant to include aluminium cans had already become known in 2021. At that time, it was said that existing halls would be expanded to accommodate additional production volumes for the manufacture of aluminium cans.
The restructuring now envisaged will affect a number of jobs, while at the same time shifting some functions to the newly installed aluminium lines, a company spokesperson said. Management had begun discussions with workers' representatives on the details of the restructuring programme, he said.
