Beer sales figures continue to be in a minus situation
News General news
Compared with July of the previous year, domestic beer sales were down by 4.6 percent. The figures for total beer sales also continued to decline, as they did in June. Compared to the previous month, the German Brewers Association (DBB) had to report a decline of 4.9 percent for July 2022.
Despite the decline in sales in the last two months, total beer sales in calendar year 2022 were up 2.3 percent overall compared to the same period last year. However, the longed-for Corona catch-up is increasingly falling by the wayside due to sales declines in the top-selling summer months. According to the Federal Statistical Office, cumulative sales to date have been four (total) and three (taxable) million hectoliters lower than in 2019, the year before the Corona pandemic broke out. For fall and winter, it is to be expected that the consumer restraint already noticeable in the trade and gastronomy will continue to grow.
Berlin/Brandenburg leads the comparison of German states for July 2022 with a plus of 3.3 percent. Second place this month goes to Baden-Württemberg, with a positive change of 1.6 percent compared to the previous year. Bringing up the rear in the statistics is currently Thuringia, with a drop of 18.6 percent compared to July 2021.
