Growth in the whisky portfolio: The Hamburg-based spirits house BORCO-MARKEN-IMPORT is focusing on another Scottish single malt Scotch whisky with the distribution takeover of Tamdhu as of 01 September 2021, which is intended to round off the premium portfolio of the Hamburg-based company and create synergies. The qualities Tamdhu 12 Year Old, Tamdhu Batch Strength, Tamdhu 15 Year Old will be taken over.
Markus Kohrs-Lichte, BORCO CEO and Chairman of the Management Board, is delighted about the new addition: "Following the distribution takeover of Rosebank, I am delighted that with Tamdhu we are able to add another whisky from Ian MacLeod to our portfolio - a testament to the strong partnership between the two family businesses. The new addition allows us to sustainably expand the BORCO premium portfolio and underline our whisky expertise."
"From Spain to Speyside": Tamdhu matures exclusively in oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain.
The distillery was founded in 1897 by a group of like-minded entrepreneurs whose goal was to pursue their passion and produce the best whisky in the world. In doing so, the group always agreed on one thing: only the best is good enough! It was finally hired the renowned architect and engineer Charles C Doig to build the distillery on the River Spey, installed the best production equipment and selected the most excellent sherry casks from Spain.
In 2010 the distillery had to close and was brought back to life in 2012 by the family business Ian MacLeod with a passionate team that today honors the Tamdhu craft. Even today, after more than 100 years, these sherry casks make Tamdhu a unique Scotch whisky and are transported from Spain to Scotland exclusively as a whole, so that all the cask flavors are preserved. The water used for production comes from the Tamdhu spring, which was also used in the founding times. For the premium quality of Tamdhu provides additionally the renunciation of colorants.
