Capri-Sun campaigns for the reintroduction of plastic drinking straws
News General news
The beverage manufacturer Capri Sun Group Holding AG wants to advocate a fundamental return to plastic drinking straws in the European Union.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed this to EUWID. The manufacturer currently uses recyclable 200 ml drinking bags made of PP for its Capri Sun brand, which, according to the producer, were introduced at the beginning of the year.
However, the straws on the pouches have been made of paper since 2021. This could lead to contamination in the recycling process during disposal. A PP solution for the straw would be more practical. According to the manufacturer, this would be recyclable mono-packaging in combination with the pouches.
However, as plastic straws are banned in the EU due to the Single Use Plastics Directive (SUPD), Capri Sun is now reviewing its options and has posted a petition on the change.org platform. The aim is to reintroduce recyclable plastic straws. According to the online petition, Capri Sun needs one million signatures.
