Billion-euro deal: Carlsberg may buy the British Pepsi bottler Britvic
News General news
The Danish Carlsberg Group can take over the British drinks producer Britvic PLC, based in Hemel Hempstead.
Carlsberg reports that both companies have reached an agreement on the acquisition of the entire share capital of the British beverage bottler.
This was valued at around £3.3 billion (€3.91 billion). Shareholders would therefore be entitled to around £1.32 (€1.18) per share. Britvic's management has decided to recommend that shareholders accept the offer.
Carlsberg expects to complete the acquisition in the first quarter of 2025, once the takeover conditions have been met and the relevant competition authorities have given their approval.
The Danish group plans to create an integrated beverage company under the name Carlsberg Britvic, with a range of beer and non-alcoholic soft drinks.
Britvic is the main bottler for PepsiCo in the UK and Ireland. The company has exclusive rights to manufacture, bottle and sell brands such as Pepsi, 7Up and Lipton Ice Tea. Britvic claims to be one of the largest producers of non-carbonated soft drinks and the second largest producer of carbonated drinks in the UK.
