Organisers report 2168 registered beers
With 2168 registered beers from a total of 40 countries, the European Beer Star is setting high standards again this year despite the difficult situation for the international brewing industry. The tasting of the submitted beers by a 140-strong jury of experts will take place on 4 and 5 August at the Doemens Academy in Gräfelfing near Munich. The newly designed European Beer Star - Future Award honours breweries for exemplary and sustainable business management as well as outstanding product quality. The winning beers of the European Beer Star 2022 will be honoured at a glittering award ceremony on 14 September during drinktec in Munich.
The interest of the global brewing industry in the European Beer Star in 2022 continues to be high: with 2168 beers registered, the renowned beer competition is setting high standards in this year of crisis. "Due to the currently so difficult economic situation for breweries as well as the globally disrupted logistics chains, we are extremely proud that we were able to break the 2000 mark in registrations again this year. We would like to thank all the breweries that have registered themselves and their beers for the European Beer Star 2022 and are now looking forward to an exciting tasting," says Stefan Stang, General Manager of the Private Breweries of Bavaria.
Two-day blind tasting
On 4 and 5 August, almost 140 international tasters will assess the quality of the beers submitted in a total of 73 categories purely according to sensory criteria. After the two-day blind tasting, which will take place in the proven manner at the Doemens Academy in Gräfelfing near Munich, the winners of gold, silver and bronze will be determined - only three best beers per category will be awarded.
European Beer Star honours sustainable corporate governance for the first time
This year, for the first time, the European Beer Star Future Award will be presented for exemplary and sustainable company management. In addition to sustainable management, product quality is also taken into account in the assessment.
From the questionnaires submitted, a team of sustainability experts from the Bochum University of Applied Sciences will determine the 10 best applications according to a recognised evaluation form. The finalists will then be re-evaluated by an interdisciplinary team of sustainability and beer experts as well as media representatives and subjected to a live European Beer Star tasting on 14 September at drinktec.
Award ceremony during drinktec in Munich

Together with the partners of the European Beer Star, the organisers of the beer competition are looking forward to a glamorous and magnificent award ceremony on site after two digital award ceremonies, true to the motto "That's how Stars taste."
