Fanta originally comes from Germany

Fanta is a carbonated soft drink produced by the Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, USA. But the drink was originally invented in Germany.
During World War II, the shortage of raw materials made it extremely difficult to produce Coca-Cola in Germany. Therefore, in 1940, the German Coca-Cola chief chemist Wolfgang Schetelig in Essen developed Fanta, a substitute product, so that Coca-Cola would not have to give up business in Germany.
From 1940, the drink consisted mainly of whey and apple residues as well as various fruit juice concentrates sourced from Italy. However, in terms of taste, it had hardly anything to do with Fanta, as sold today. From 1942 to 1949, the production of Coca-Cola in Germany was completely stopped and replaced by Fanta.
Today's orange-flavoured Fanta, by the way, originated in Italy: a bottler in Naples had the idea of producing an orange-flavoured soft drink under the umbrella of the Coca-Cola Company. In 1959, this also came to Germany under the name "Fanta klar".
Incidentally, the name Fanta is derived from the word "fantasy".
