German Beer Day: A celebration for beer lovers

German Beer Day is celebrated annually on April 23 and commemorates the enactment of the Bavarian Purity Law in 1516, which stipulated that only water, hops and barley may be used to make beer. Yeast was later added as an ingredient.

The Purity Law is the oldest food law regulation in the world and is regarded as a seal of quality for German beer. It prohibits the use of additives and thus ensures pure, unadulterated beer enjoyment.

The Day of German Beer has been proclaimed by the German Brewers' Association since 1994. Numerous events and campaigns take place around April 23, focusing on the diversity and quality of German barley juice.

Germany is known for its wide variety of beers. The most popular types of beer include Pilsner, wheat beer, Helles and Export. But regional specialties such as Kölsch, Altbier and Berliner Weisse are also very popular. In total, there are over 6,000 different beers from more than 1,500 breweries in Germany.

The Day of German Beer is a celebration for all beer lovers and a tribute to the traditional craft of brewing.
