Good City Brewing closes its location in Mequon Public Market

After what they said was careful analysis and collaboration with the property owner, the Explorium Hospitality Group has closed the Good City Brewing location in the Mequon Public Market, GMToday.com reported on March 6.

The Explorium co-owner Mike Doble explained that the market has a local business owner interested in the space, and that they needed to focus their resources on the other five locations in its group.

"This was an amicable decision on the part of the property owner, the new business, Smokin’ Jack’s BBQ, and us," Doble told the News Graphic. "This location is a stretch for us geographically in relation to our other locations and operating in a public market space presented challenges we were not confident we could overcome. In short, we didn’t feel we could give it the necessary attention to make it thrive even though we feel a local operator could make that bar space an amazingly successful spot!"

Doble said that the difficult part of the decision was informing the location’s current staff, many of whom live in the local community and have worked for Good City for multiple years.

"We are grateful for the time and dedication they have given to both Good City before us and now Explorium for a short time," the co-owner added, noting that they offered to connect them all with the new operator, as well as find a position for them at any EHG location. "So far we have placed the kitchen staff and one bartender at other EHG locations."

Mequon’s Good City Brewing, which ceased operation on Friday, February 28, first opened in the Public Market at 6300 W. Mequon Road in 2022. The EHG acquired all Good City Brewing locations earlier this year.
