The Regensburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Upper Palatinate / Kelheim has once again presented the traditional Neumarkter Lammsbräu brewery with a certificate for its comprehensive environmental management: the company has been successfully revalidated according to the strict requirements of the EMAS environmental management system.
In doing so, the IHK also honoured the brewery's long-standing commitment: Neumarkter Lammsbräu was one of the first companies in the region to voluntarily commit to implementing an operational environmental management system in 1996, more than 25 years ago. Silke Auer, Managing Director of the Neumarkt Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Ursula Hammerbacher, Chairwoman of the committee, and Andrea Bayer, Head of Energy and Environment at the Regensburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce, presented the certificate on site at the brewery's headquarters in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz to Johannes Ehrnsperger, owner and Managing Director of Neumarkter Lammsbräu, and Silvia Wittl, Environmental and Quality Management Officer.
Companies that, like Neumarkter Lammsbräu, commit to the guidelines of the EMAS III Regulation or the ISO 14001 environmental management system must be recertified or revalidated by external environmental auditors at three-year intervals. With an established continuous improvement process, energy and water consumption as well as CO2e data (unit of measurement for the effect of all greenhouse gases on the climate) are systematically recorded by means of key figures during the year in order to check the effectiveness of the measures implemented with regard to the intended improvements for the environment and the use of resources. The certificate from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce confirms that Neumarkter Lammsbräu is once again included in the EMAS register.
"For more than 25 years we have been responsibly practising corporate environmental protection. EMAS III helps us to proceed in a structured way and to identify potential for improvement," says Johannes Ehrnsperger, owner and managing director of Neumarkter Lammsbräu. "A good example of this is climate protection: with our climate strategy, we want to reduce a total of 42 per cent of our emissions in the years 2020 to 2030. Measures such as in the area of renewable energies, wastewater heat utilisation and a wood chip heating system represent an effective lever to achieve this goal."
"We are pleased to once again present Neumarkter Lammsbräu, one of the first EMAS companies, with the certificate for audited environmental management," says Ursula Hammerbacher, Chairwoman of the Neumarkt Chamber of Commerce and Industry committee. "The EMAS certificate shows that a company is serious about its environmental protection measures. Neumarkter Lammsbräu has not only been paying attention to improvements in its own company for more than a quarter of a century, but has also set important impulses for the entire region. Lammsbräu is also a beacon for sustainable action beyond the region and thus makes our location well known."
