Lumumba or Dead Aunt

Lumumba is an alcoholic mixed drink. The name is borrowed from the surname of the late Congolese politician Patrice Lumumba (1925-1961).

The drink consists of hot or cold cocoa with a shot of rum, sometimes with whipped cream. Instead of rum, brandy or amaretto can also be added.

Lumumba is known in northern Germany (especially in North Friesland) as well as in the Netherlands and Denmark under the name Dead Aunt. This name developed after a legend from the island of Föhr. The urn containing the ashes of a woman from Föhr who died in the USA is said to have returned to the island in a cocoa box.
