Dornbirn-based Mohrenbrauerei relies on high-quality ingredients from the region and cooperation with family-owned businesses. Vorarlberg's beer market leader and the Tettnang hop-growing company Bentele ensure regional beer enjoyment with the exclusive cultivation of aroma hops. With this long-term cooperation, Mohrenbrauerei ensures the highest quality and absolute security of supply for the beer raw material.

"We are up close to the hops and know exactly what refines our beer," Mohrenbräu brewmaster Tim Groeger is pleased to say. Vorarlberg's beer market leader has just harvested its first full crop of aroma hops from its own hop yard. The approximately 2.5 hectare cultivation area in Tettnang supplied the entire annual requirement of the "Tradition" variety. With this exclusive production, Mohrenbrauerei and Hopfen Bentele are strengthening their partnership.

The two family-owned companies have enjoyed a fruitful collaboration for ten years - also at the training level. "Our apprentices are involved in the harvesting, drying, cooking and packaging of the aroma hops. This gives them even more insight into the world of beer," reports Groeger. Hop farmer Robert Bentele runs a home brewery himself at the farm in Tettnang: "We share our passion for really good beer, traditional brewing craft, and natural aroma with Mohrenbräu and look forward to many bountiful harvests."

Regional quality at first hand
While the bittering hops provide the basic bitterness, the aroma hops are used to refine the beer. The timing and method of addition are specially adapted to the particular type of beer. The Mohrenbrauerei relies on the natural aroma hops "Tradition" and "Perle" from controlled cultivation and does not use extracts. "Large international brewery groups almost exclusively use extracts. As a traditional company, we are committed to quality and pay attention to the origin of our ingredients," Groeger emphasizes.

Working directly with the producer ensures independence from suppliers and guarantees consistent quality. When it comes to developing and launching new beers and selecting the right hop variety, the close partnership also pays off, as Groeger notes: "A trusting, family-like relationship is worth more to us than the lowest price. When it comes down to it, it's the handshake that counts."
