National Daiquiri Day takes place in the USA on 19 July

The Daiquiri is a refreshing classic cocktail that is perfect for hot summer days. It was invented by the American Jennings Cox, who worked as an engineer in a Cuban village called Daiquiri in 1898. After a long day's work, he mixed rum, lime and sugar with ice - the Daiquiri was born and quickly became the favourite drink of the miners working there.

Simple ingredients, great effect
Basically, the daiquiri consists of just three ingredients: Rum, lime juice and sugar. But the art lies in the perfect balance of these ingredients. Many bartenders see the preparation of a daiquiri as a benchmark for their skills. By varying the ingredients, such as different types of rum and sugar, countless nuances of flavour can be created.

Famous daiquiri fans
Ernest Hemingway, who was a big fan of the drink, contributed to the international fame of the daiquiri. Even John F. Kennedy is said to have toasted his election as US president with an ice-cold daiquiri. Today, cocktail lovers around the world celebrate "National Daiquiri Day" on 19 July in honour of the cult drink.

Daiquiri variations to mix yourself
In addition to the classic recipe, there are many modern daiquiri variations:
- The Hemingway Daiquiri is made without sugar - ideal for fans of less sweet drinks.
- The frozen daiquiri comes with crushed ice in the mixer and is perfect as a pool bar refreshment.
- A little activated charcoal gives the cocktail a trendy, deep black colour.

So on National Daiquiri Day, it's worth experimenting with different daiquiri recipes and mixing the drink to suit your personal taste. This is the perfect way to celebrate the legend of the classic cocktail.
