Riedenburger Brauhaus lays the foundation for a sustainability offensive: groundbreaking for groundbreaking new building

The ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony for the new building project of the Riedenburger Brauhaus took place on September 24th. In close cooperation with the Max Bögl group of companies, the plant manufacturer banke, the local construction company Goppold Bau and Drinks Projects UG, the traditional organic brewery is laying the foundation for sustainable and future-oriented production. The new brewery and visitor catering facility, which is being built entirely using the innovative Bögl environmental concrete, not only represents a significant investment in the regional economy, but also sets new standards in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency.

Importance for the region
The new building of the Riedenburger Brauhaus is a flagship project for the region. As a traditional company in its eighth generation, the organic pioneer can look back on positive business development in recent years. By collaborating with suppliers from the region, local value creation is strengthened. “We are proud that with this project we are not only expanding our production capacities, but also making an important contribution to the economic development of our homeland,” emphasized brewery boss Maximilian Krieger. The district administrator of the Kelheim district, Martin Neumeyer, also emphasized that the progressive and innovative new building was a valuable addition to the new eco-model region of Kelheim and underlined the importance of sustainable projects for the entire region.

Sustainable construction: environmental concrete
A central element of the new building is the use of Bögl environmental concrete. This innovative building material, which reduces the cement content by up to 70% through substitute materials, significantly reduces CO2 emissions and supports the Riedenburger Brauhaus in its efforts to act in an ecologically responsible manner. “The use of environmental concrete is an important step in our sustainability strategy and a contribution to protecting the environment,” added Krieger.

Advanced energy concept: decarbonization
In addition to the ecological construction, the Riedenburger Brauhaus relies on a progressive energy concept that envisages the gradual decarbonization of the entire production. In cooperation with banke GmbH, an energy-efficient, fully automatic brewhouse with a connected yeast, fermentation and storage cellar is being installed, which significantly reduces the thermal energy requirement. The goal is to completely eliminate fossil fuels by 2030 at the latest. Mario Schäfer, Managing Director of the Association of Private Breweries Bavaria e. V., praised the foresight and deep commitment of the organic brewery in this context and sees the extensive new building project as an “investment in the future of the planet”.

Open visitor concept
The new brewery building will not only be a production location, but also a place for encounters and experiences. Thanks to the open visitor concept, those interested can take a look behind the scenes during opening hours and experience the brewing process up close. An integrated beer bar and the existing beer garden invite you to enjoy the beers from the Riedenburger Brauhaus directly on site.

A look into the future
With this groundbreaking a new era begins for the Riedenburger Brauhaus. “This project is the largest and most ambitious in our history. It represents our commitment to quality, innovation and sustainability,” summarized Maximilian Krieger. The brewery is expected to be open to visitors from summer 2025.
