As the name suggests, this exceptional rum is aged for 12 years in two different casks. Initially matured in hand-selected oak barrels, it is finished in a first-fill, heavily burnt American white oak barrel from California's Napa Valley. The use of the two cask types produces a remarkably mild flavour profile.

The special barrels are burnt out over a period of 60 minutes at 180°C to first break up the wood structure. The heat is then increased to 220°C to create an 8 mm thick layer of charcoal. This two-step process releases the optimal aromas bound in the wood, as the more heavily treated surface allows the distillate to penetrate even deeper into the wood.
