The perfect glass for mineral water

As with wine, the glass influences the taste of mineral water. So what is the right glass for mineral water?

Our 5 tips for choosing the right glass for mineral water:

  • The thinner-walled the glass, the more pleasant the drinking experience.
  • Glasses with a large diameter allow the carbon dioxide to escape quickly. A “classic” mineral water then soon becomes a “medium” water.
  • A slim, narrow glass can hold the carbon dioxide better. The carbon dioxide reaches the tongue much more noticeably.
  • A glass with a slightly flared rim brings the mineral water directly to the tip of the tongue. The front taste buds perceive the sweetness best. The water tastes somewhat milder there than at the back of the tongue and palate.
  • If the glass is more closed at the top and has a larger diameter, the water reaches the tip of the tongue further back. This emphasizes the salty components at the edge of the tongue and the acidity at the back of the tongue.
